Many artificial ponds and water features suffer from high organic loading and sludge build-up, which often leads to murkiness, foaming and other issues.
Using natural bacteria to break down sludge and consume excess nutrients is the most environmentally friendly way to remediate a pond and achieve optimal water quality.
Water Clarity
Water Clarity Problems. Clarity problems occur when a combination of pond water, sunlight, nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P) is present. These cause the growth of photosynthesising algae in the pond, which can make the water ‘murky’. The bacteria in ACF-SC Dual-Packs utilise N and P as their primary source of nutrition. The ACF bacteria consume N and P exceptionally quickly and without any toxicity. BluePlanet™ Dual-Packs restore the natural balance in a pond, promoting a healthy mix of natural bacteria. Using Dual-Packs, a pond is restored to its' natural clarity and beauty.
Sludge & Odour
Almost all ponds, particularly older ones, have the issue of sludge building up. Sludge is the organic sediment that accumulates at the bottom of a pond. Several problems can arise when the sludge buildup becomes excessive. The pond may contain a significant amount of oxygen near the top of the water column, but in the sludge at the bottom of the pond, there is very little oxygen. Odour-generating “anaerobic bacteria” live in this sludge at the bottom of the pond. The build-up poses the risk of disease in wildlife due to the multiplication of pathogens. Foul pond odours (usually referred to as the “rotten egg smell”) also originate from the sludge at the bottom of the pond.
ACF Dual-Pack
ACF bacteria is designed to digest organic sludge (leaves, dead algae, fish/bird waste etc.).
ACF-SC Dual-Pack has been designed specifically for ponds and lakes and consists of a liquid-concentrated bacteria and a powder-based bag. These work together to digest the sludge at the bottom of a pond. ACF Dual-Pack is a fast-acting product that breaks down excess nutrients in ponds and lakes. This means that the risk of fish disease is reduced, and foul pond odours are eliminated.
