For Nova Q, the leading Irish supplier of activated Carbon, developing the supply chain for activated Carbon in an environmentally sustainable manner is a priority.
New for 2023 and subject to TFS approval, we will introduce a recycle option whereby qualifying spent activated Carbon can be returned for cleaning and reactivation. This reactivation is not only environmentally sustainable but more financially sustainable than sending spent Carbon to hazardous incineration.
Often called Active Carbon or Activated Charcoal, Activated Carbon is a highly porous form of Carbon. Its porous structure makes it an excellent adsorbent, often used to remove contaminants or odours by adsorbing them to the extensive carbon surface.
ADsorption is where liquid or gas particles are captured on a surface (different from ABsorption, where liquid or gas particles are dissolved into a liquid). Activated Carbon provides a sustainable way to remove pollutants from the environment, consistent with Nova Q’s core value to bring best-in- class environmental sustainability solutions to our customers.
Most Activated Carbon is made from coal or coconut bases. It can be produced in various forms, including granular, pellet, or powder. In addition, different combinations of chemical catalysts (impregnants) can be added to improve functionality for the removal of specific contaminants in a range of moisture and oxygen conditions.
