Spring 2023 Nutrient Requirements
It’s that time of year again, when the evenings have started to get a bit longer and the weather a bit more favourable. Finally, it has started to feel more like spring!
However, it has been a really harsh winter on crops in the ground with many receiving constant levels of high rainfall since sowing. Many crops around the country are looking severely hungry so it is vital to assess crops early and have a suitable nutrition plan in place to allow crops to hit the ground running.
Below we have identified some common nutrient deficiencies found in crops, and have a look through the products in our armour to help relieve these and maximise plant health and performance!
Potassium plays a key role in plant structure development. It plays a crucial role in the water regulation of plants as well as regulating the rate of photosynthesis. The majority of crops have a large requirement for potassium which is why its deficiency is often referred to as the 'hidden hunger'.
Can you identify a Magnesium deficiency in your crop?
A Magnesium deficiency within a crop will cause yellow speckling on the leaf.
Magnesium is the dominant element of the chlorophyll molecule of the plant tissue. When there is a deficiency of Magnesium in the plant, this results in poor and structured growth.
How can I pinpoint a Manganese deficiency in my crop?
A manganese deficiency within a plant appears as yellow streaking on the leaf.
Manganese deficiencies in crops appear as patches of pale growth in the leaf, and if it is left untreated, the impacted leaves can wither.
K-Mag and K-Man Special are formulated with high levels of Potassium to relieve specific nutrient deficiencies and boosting the photosynthesis capabilities of the plant.
With the current surges in fertiliser prices, it is vitally important to apply nutrients when they are required in order to maximise yield potential. As well as this, applying fertiliser when it is not needed is very harmful to the environment due to nutrient leaching and volitilisation.
The graph below outlines some of the major trigger points in wheat and this is why an application of B-Evergreen plus at growth stage 30 is so effective.
B-Evergreen Plus
A protected Nitrogen based product with Potassium, Phosphate and trace elements providing balanced energy for growth, plant canopy enhancement and promoting photosynthesis.
- Uniform growth
- Slow release nature providing the crop with energy over a long period of time
- Reduced losses by ammonia volatilisation
